Thanks to a response to a tweet asking for an update from Motorola Support, we now have some information on why the Motorola Moto X 2013 has not been updated to Android Lollipop yet. The lack of an update for the Moto X 2013 is becoming increasingly frustrating for owners of those devices as they have seen several Motorola devices that one might think would be further back in the line either getting the Lollipop treatment or about to get it. According to the Motorola Support tweet, the cause of the delay is in the chipset used in the device.
The Moto X 2013 uses a dual-core Snapdragon S4 Pro which Motorola says “requires more effort” to get Lollipop working in a satisfactory manner. If there is any silver lining to this news that Motorola is struggling to get things right with the Moto X 2013 it is that they verified that Lollipop is definitely coming to the device. Unfortunately, no timeline for an update was provided and according to Motorola’s apparently official position, the company is working on rolling out Lollipop 5.0.2 because “5.1 has not been launched by Android yet.”
Hang in there Moto X 2013 owners, Lollipop is on its way.
