Samsung is expecting big things from the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 this year. After last year’s Galaxy S5 missed sales targets, it’s imperative that the Galaxy S6 get off to a great start.

The Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge have been available for a little over month now, and it appears that Samsung is on track for a very solid year. They just announced that sales of the Galaxy S6 have reached 10 million units.

Now that might sound like exciting news, but it’s important to understand that both the Galaxy S4 and the Galaxy S5 reached 10 million units in their respective first months as well. So this doesn’t indicate that the S6 / S6 Edge are on a better trend. The key will be sustainability, which the Galaxy S5 lacked. There’s always some excitement when a smartphone launches, but many consumers are still under contract and are unable to buy it if they wanted to. Samsung will need to continue to capture the consumer’s attention with more marketing as other phones like the LG G4 launch and attempt to steal their market share.

Analysts still expect a solid year for both the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge as they are estimating that 70 million units will be sold. If that happens, there will be a lot of celebration in Korea later this year.
