Android News: 19 Sega games have been pulled from mobile app stores

SEGA logoWe knew Sega was planning on pulling several of its games from mobile app stores, although the company didn’t give any indication of which games were getting brushed under the rug. Thanks to some keen observers at PocketGamer, though, we have a list of exactly which 19 games are MIA from the Play Store.

Looks like Sonic the Hedgehog is safe, but the following 19 games are no longer available for sale:

  • After Burner Climax
  • Jet Set Radio
  • Super Monkey Ball 1 & 2
  • Super Monkey Ball Adventure
  • Super Monkey Ball Tip’n’Tilt 1 &2
  • Super Monkey Ball: Touch & Roll
  • Super Monkey Ball Banana Splitz
  • Altered Beast
  • Ecco the Dolphin
  • Golden Axe 1, 2 & 3
  • Phantasy Star 2
  • Streets of Rage 1 & 3
  • Space Harrier 2
  • Virtua Fighter 2

Sega hasn’t issued an official statement about these games, but they did say earlier that the games might be brought back if they were updated and brought up to “Sega’s standards.” If you’ve already downloaded the apps, you’re in the clear, as they won’t be untied from your account. There’s just no guarantee that they’re going to work well on newer devices.

Hopefully Sega either puts the resources into updating these older titles, or they use their condensed catalog as an opportunity to avoid being in this situation in the future.
