Yesterday it was reported that Samsung already has received orders of close to 20 million units of both the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge combined. Today we are hearing more specific news about Samsung’s production estimates.
According to the latest report, Samsung has bumped up their production estimates for both the S6 and Edge to 13 million units. On a per month basis, that would be 5 million in March followed by 8 million in April. Out of these 13 million, about 4 million will be for Edge handsets.
Probably the biggest issue here is the term “bumped up” refers to only a 1 million increase for the two months, so Samsung originally planned for 12 million units. Either Samsung’s production capacity isn’t enough or the 20 million estimate is exaggerated. There is also the issue that carriers might be ordering further out, and the 20 million figure might actually be correct. It’s just that the carriers don’t need all 20 million in the first 2 months.
The bottomline is that things are looking pretty good for Samsung. Let’s hope that those that want to buy one will be able to actually get their hands on one at launch.
