Today, the partnership started between HTC and Under Armour was put on display. The Taiwanese company unveiled the HTC GRIP fitness tracker, the first fitness tracking device to ever be released by HTC. This fitness tracker is powered by Under Armour and mimics many features commonly found on a smartwatch while maintaining the size and comfort of a fitness tracker.

The display offers such a subtle look because HTC uses what they call a “passive matrix-organic LED.” The HTC GRIP’s display shows the time and date while in standby; however, that all changes once the tracking begins.

The HTC GRIP has five sensors to collect data and, yes, a GPS is indeed one of them. The sensors allow the device to have a multi-sport mode to seamlessly understand what activity a user is currently doing. Then, data can be synced with the UA Record platform.

Here is a quote from Drew Bamford, Corporate Vice President of HTC Creative Labs:

“The combination of the world’s premier connected fitness brand with the design expertise of HTC allows us to accelerate our shared goal – improving the way you train, perform and live.”

The HTC GRIP will be available from select retailers in North America starting next month.
