Up to this point, LG has only offered one form of a flexible display in a smartphone. The G Flex and G Flex 2 are curved vertically. Samsung, on the other hand, has offered a horizontal curved display in the Galaxy Round as well as the Galaxy Note Edge, which features a curved edge display. It looks like LG will be joining the curved edge party based on a prototype that was shown at CES behind closed doors.
The prototype features a 6-inch HD Active Bending P-AMOLED display. The bright spot is that it bends at both edges, giving you a side-view screen at both the right and left edges. The downside is that the display is only 720p (1280 x 720), which is a lot lower than Samsung’s Quad HD (2560 x 1440) display on the Galaxy Note Edge.
As to when we will see something come to market is anyone’s guess. They could offer a G4 variant, but one has to wonder what kind of production capacity this device will have? Stay tuned, as I am sure we will hear a lot more about it in the coming months.
