Android News: Is Motorola about to bring MotoMaker to wearables?

When Motorola rebooted itself a few years back, it brought customization to the forefront of its smartphones. From colored backplates on the Moto G to customizing almost everything on the Moto X in terms of design via MotoMaker, having your smartphone reflect your tastes is a big selling point for Motorola and it appears that the Lenovo company is looking to add that functionality to wearables.

While the Moto 360 was rumored to have this option prior to its launch in the middle of last year, nothing came to fruition. However, at an interview at CES (be sure to check out our complete coverage here) Motorola Chief Operating Officer Rick Osterloh had this to say:

“Could be. We have no major announcements in this area, but I think your intuition is very good.”

He also believes that customization is quite important.

“We consider this to be the power alley of our strategy,” Osterloh said. “We’re driving toward consumer choice because we think as these become more personal devices, this becomes increasingly important.”

Sales for the Moto 360 have exceeded expectations for Motorola as it continues to rebuild itself and Osterloh hopes to continue to push forward in the wearables market while also improving it. One area he hope to improve is battery life. With the second generation Moto 360 expected sometime this year, Osterloh says that the company will still focus on premium wearables.
