It has been reported that the Snapdragon 810 chip is having an issue with overheating and therefore will be delayed. At the same time, we have already had two phones get announced that utilize the said chip. DigiTimes is now reporting that everything is on schedule.
Now DigiTimes isn’t always the greatest when it comes to things like this, so you might want to hold off jumping for joy so quickly. Their reasoning is that the LG G Flex 2 and the Xiaomi Mi Note and Mi Note Pro have been announced with no delays so how could their be a problem? They also site “information gathered” as another reason. The problem here is that last week, JP Morgan analysts came out and said there is an issue. For analysts from JP Morgan to say something like that, there has to be some credibility to it.
Furthermore, in that report, it was revealed that the Adreno 430 GPU and the 810′s 64-bit capabilities are not optimized in the LG G Flex 2. We don’t know what Xiaomi is doing with the Mi Note and Mi Note Pro. It’s very likely they are making some sort of modification as well. So to assume that since devices utilizing the said chip are coming to market, means there are no issues with the chip, is probably not the right thinking.
What could be more concerning is the fact that these devices are coming to market with a known problem. How the devices will react in the real world is anyone’s guess, but we sure hope there won’t be any issues.
